Privacy Policy
Effective 1 September 2026 · Pantri Ltd · Applies to the Pantri app for iPhone and iPad and this website
The short version
- Pantri works without an account. Your inventory lives on your device and in your own iCloud — we cannot read it.
- Photos you scan are processed to extract label data, then deleted from our systems right after processing.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs, no advertising, and we never sell personal data.
01Who we are
Pantri is made by Pantri Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom ("Pantri", "we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us about anything privacy-related at privacy@pantrikitchen.app.
02What we process, and why
Pantri is designed to hold as little of your data as possible. Most of what the app knows about your kitchen never reaches us at all.
Label scans and photos
When you scan a label, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to Anthropic, our AI provider, to extract fields such as the product name, expiry date, weight and nutrition. The extracted data is returned to your device and the photo is deleted from our systems right after processing. Under our agreement with Anthropic, your photos and text are not used to train AI models. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
Ask Pantri and recipe imports
Messages you type, and links, text or screenshots you import as recipes, are processed the same way: sent to our server, passed to Anthropic to generate the result, returned to your device, and not retained after processing. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
Your inventory, recipes and plans
Your shelf, recipe collections and meal plans are stored on your device and, if you enable sync or shared shelves, in your personal iCloud account provided by Apple. This data is held under your Apple ID; we have no access to it and cannot read, recover or delete it for you. Deleting the app and its iCloud data removes it.
Shopping-list pricing
To price your basket, the app sends the item names on your list to our server, which looks up current supermarket prices. The request is not linked to your identity, and list contents are not retained after the lookup. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
Beta invites
If you leave your email address on our website, we store it solely to send your TestFlight invite and occasional beta updates. We delete it when the beta ends, or earlier on request. Legal basis: consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Purchases
Pantri Plus subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive confirmation that a subscription is active, but never your name, payment details or billing address.
03What we don't collect
The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. We do not collect your location, contacts, advertising identifiers or browsing behaviour, and we do not build profiles of you. We never sell personal data, and we never share it for advertising.
04How long we keep things
- Scan photos and imported contentdeleted right after processing
- Ask Pantri messagesnot retained after the response
- Price lookup requestsnot retained after the lookup
- Beta email addressuntil the beta ends, or on request
- Server logs (technical, no content)up to 30 days, for security and reliability
05Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers needed to run Pantri, acting on our instructions: Anthropic (AI processing of scans, imports and Ask Pantri requests), Apple (iCloud sync and App Store purchases, under your own Apple ID and Apple's terms), and our hosting provider (running the Pantri server). We do not sell personal data, and we have no advertising partners. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
06International transfers
Some of our providers, including Anthropic, process data outside the UK (for example in the United States). Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision.
07Your rights
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) you have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, to restrict or object to our processing of it, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Email privacy@pantrikitchen.app and we will respond within one month. Because most of your data never reaches us, many requests can be satisfied simply by deleting the app and its iCloud data from your device — we will tell you honestly when that is the case.
You also have the right to complain to the UK's supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk.
08Security
All traffic between the app and our server is encrypted in transit. Our server keeps no database of your kitchen: it exists to relay scans, imports and price lookups, and holds content only for the moments needed to process it.
09Children
Pantri is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
10Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date. If a change meaningfully affects how your data is handled, we will flag it in the app before it takes effect.
